Greenhorizons Sod Farms was approached by the design team for the Toronto FC, to help determine the best turf option for three new soccer fields being constructed at TFC’s new training Center at Downsview Park. Due to the accelerated construction schedule, Greenhorizons’ Soilless GHG Ultimate Sport Turf System™, including ProXstablishment, Greenhorizons’ Professional Turf Management Program™ was chosen.
Prior to sod installation, the team from Greenhorizons Sod Farms performed an irrigation system audit and determined the system, as designed, would not have sufficient water volume to establish the new sod, therefore a temporary pump was installed to supplement the irrigation system during sod establishment.
The three new soccer fields have been very well received by the players, coaches and maintenance staff. The fields have been playable very early in the season and have remained durable all season long.
