Our Family has been farming along the Grand River in Waterloo County for 80 years. The art of farming is truly in the Schiedel family’s blood. As I am a 3rd Generation steward of this land it was instilled in me early that our soil is our most important asset and we MUST take very good care of it for our livelihood, and for future generations. 50 years ago my father Richard Schiedel began showing me the ropes to farming and land stewardship. Times were different back then as we were primarily a livestock farm and farming a lot less acres. Fast forward 20 years we made substantial changes to our operation. Livestock was gone and Cash Crop was in and in 1975 we planted our first Turf crop.
Taking all the farm knowledge that has been passed down through generations we began our new journey farming turf.
What has lead us to our success today stems from our in depth understanding of the land and our persistence to improve our greatest asset; the soil. I am proud of the experience and knowledge our team brings to the table, fulfilled with the value we have provided to our community and I am excited for what the future brings us in this ever changing agricultural world.

Greenhorizons Sod Farms
A PASSION FOR FARMING AND PEOPLE
Greenhorizons Sod Farms is a Family owned and operated company.
We live and operate on a very simple principle; Make people happy! ☺ Our passion for farming has allowed us to positively affect the individuals surrounding our company, whether it be our team members, landlords, or customers. We are incredibly lucky to house so many like minded individuals with the same common goal. Greenhorizons is truly the by product of when a family's passion, business and hobbies align.
A popular term in farming is “sustainability”. In our industry it is widely known that our soils are precious and farmers need to be thinking long term in order to maintain good soil health. At Greenhorizons, we like to think a little different! “Sustainable” is not enough. It is in our best interest to try to improve the soils that we manage. We don’t just talk the talk, we walk the walk. We do our part to push the farming industry forward with constant innovation in farming practices. We are dedicated to cover crop programs to enhance the carbons and organic matter in our soil, two vital ingredients to soil health. Also we have a in house testing facilities to test different cover crop mixtures, macro and micro nutrients.
What does this mean to you?
Your land is valuable, we understand what it takes to properly manage soil health with a long term mindset. We have your best interest in mind when we are giving the opportunity to steward your land.
