The sod looks magnificent when you leave, but you revisit the site one week later only to realize that the homeowner didn\u2019t keep up with the necessary watering! The sod has turned brown and is dying, beyond the point of recovery. That\u2019s a lot of wasted sod, time, and resources for all parties involved. We have seen this happen time and time again. In order to improve the rate of sod success, we\u2019ve laid out the necessary watering and maintenance schedule here!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Watering New Sod<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Water is\nthe single most important tip for successful sod installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Water\nImmediately.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Our basic\nrule has always been: A half inch of water in the first 10-15 minutes is better\nthan 3 inches of water a few hours later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Water\nDeeply.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>To\nmaximize results, the ground must be kept moist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>IMPORTANT<\/strong>:&nbsp;Ensure water has penetrated the the sod by lifting a corner and checking the ground beneath.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">WATERING\nGAUGE TIP<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>To gauge watering, simply place an empty straight-edge can or container about 6 feet away from the sprinkler.<\/li><li>When there is a half inch of water in the can, it is time to move the sprinkler to the next area.<\/li><li>Reflected heat along buildings dries sod quickly. Adjust your cutting height if needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>IMPORTANT:&nbsp;The most common and disastrous installation mistake is NOT mowing 6-7 days after installation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MOWING\nTIPS<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Your new living carpet needs mowing 6-7 days after installation.<\/li><li>The basic mowing rule: never remove more than 1\/3 of the leaf blade during a single mowing.<\/li><li>Set your mower at a cutting height of approximately 2 1\/4\u201d.<\/li><li>For best appearance and better resistance to disease, be sure to keep your mower blades sharp.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Post Sod\nEstablishment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Regular\nMaintenance Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fertilizing<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Fertilize your new lawn a minimum of three(3) times per year. Soil\nsamples should be taken annually. If a soil sample is unattainable, apply a\nfertilizer with a balanced ratio of 2-1-2 at the following \u201cN\u201d (nitrogen)\nlevels: for passive lawn areas, apply a minimum of 4 lbs of nitrogen per 1000\nsquare feet per year; for medium to high traffic areas, apply a minimum of 6\nlbs of actual nitrogen per 1000 square feet per year. Apply fertilizer\naccording to this schedule: first day of Spring, first day of Summer, first day\nof fall. Optionally fertilize after your last day of mowing before winter\ndormancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mowing\nEstablished Sod<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Mow your new lawn a minimum of once per week, and twice per week during\npeak growing season (mid Spring\/early Summer). NEVER REMOVE MORE THAN 1\/3 OF\nTHE GRASS BLADE.
